HUNTING IN BULGARIA

Bulgaria is a country of 13-century history but the hunting exists on its territory since pre-historic time mainly due to its magnificent nature.

 

Therefore, it is not a coincidence that the hunting here has been scientifically developed and legislatively supported since the last century.

 

Bulgaria’s greatest target is to protect and enrich the biological and genetic fund of its game. Complex programmes have been implemented over the whole territory of the country in order to ensure maximum number of animals with high trophy and exterior qualities. A basic ambition as well is to educate the people in love for the wild nature and the animal world, in the art and culture of fishing and hunting.

 

An well-organized hunting movement involved in educational, nature-protective and hunting and game expert training activity has been existing in our country since the last century. The result of it is a good hunting organization, richness and variety of the game, clean populations and excellent trophies.

 

The long-term, purposeful and very hard human work in the field of scientific researches, nature-protective, selective and economic activity with good management and strict control is remarkable. Many hunting reserves were created where forest and game scientific work is carried out.

 

WHAT DO WE OFFER?

I. BIG GAME

Today, Bulgaria is one of the most desirable big game destinations and in particular for red deer and wild boar. It is a holder of the present red deer world record ( 273,6 points CIC ) and what is more important, the country gives the greatest part of the red deer capital trophies in the world mainly in the lowland. Very emotional hunting in the mountain areas – symmetric, beautiful trophies ( 6 – 9 kgs.). The best hunting time is the breeding period – middle of September / middle of October.

Wild boar – the world record ( 158,30 pts. CIC ) also belongs to Bulgaria. There are good opportunities for shooting of very big animals – up to 300 kgs. with the highest trophy qualities – bronze to gold medals. This is due to the favorable biotop ( vast oak and beech forests ) and to the excellent management. The most successful way is the individual hunt and the battue during the winter months. Limited battues regions. Very emotional hunt with long traditions. Groups of 6 to 12 pax. Could be combined with red deer, fallow deer and mouflon hunt - hunted through stalking and afoot. /walking/.

Magnificent roe deer trophies ( the Bulgarian record is 840 grs – shooting period August / October ); chamois – the record is 115 pts CIC – best hunting period the breeding one, end of October / November; mouflon - trophy characteristics very close to the record holder countries; excellent fallow deers, very beautiful trophies – the most suitable time for shooting October, the breeding period.

The brown bear hunt has been permitted again in the last couple of years ( trophies from 300 pts CIC till 480 pts CIC ) against limited number of licenses. Due to the strict policy of hunting control, the brown bear population has good indices today as a game stock. The shooting period is in spring – March 1st – April 15th and in autumn – September 1st – December 31st .

The capercalzie hunt is also very emotional ( April 25th – May 15th ) – limited number of licenses only during the mating season. High quality trophies, very good game stock mainly in the Rhodopy mountains.

Finally but not at the last place we have to mention the predatory animals hunt. In Bulgaria you still have the chance to see and shoot a wolf. During the last years the wolf stock has been increased and now each season ( mainly in winter ) we shoot between 20 and 30 animals. The wolf chase is very successful and emotional ( February / March ).

Other predators: fox, wild cat ( world record for Bulgaria ), jackal. Usually during another game hunt and depending on the area and period of hunting you have the chance to shoot predatory animals as well.

 

 

 

II. SMALL GAME

The most favorable hunting period is in October / November when you can combine pheasant, partridge / rock partridge, hare hunt.

Groups of 4 to 10 pax. – individual hunt or battue.

The migratory game hunt is also very successful ( August / September – quail, tourtle-dove, wood pigeon ).

Very beautiful and emotional hunt of wild duck and wild goose in the winter months ( December / January ) at Danube river and Black Sea.

We may offer you wonderful snipe hunt ( November / February ) – groups of up to 4 hunters ( option with their own dogs ).

Depending on your kind inquiry for the kind of the game, quantity, trophy dimensions, hunting period, area preferences, number of hunters in a group, we are in the position to choose for you the most suitable hunting area.

The hunting reserves are independent state owned organizations with self management but under the supervision of the state which allows centralized, well organized hunting and afforestation activity and strict control on the game usage.

WHERE ?

HUNTING AREAS

Bulgaria provides its best hunting sites – government hunting reserves – to the foreign hunters for almost 20 years. They combine a hunting activity put on scientific basis, good management, and a hard work for the protection of the game richness and cleanness of the populations. The result of it is a game with excellent exterior and trophy qualities and well arranged hunting areas ( 5000 to 30 000 ha ), with highly qualified experts and marvelous organization.

Practically, they are spread over the whole territory of the country but we may set them apart formally within the following regions:

NORTHEAST BULGARIA – the Danube Plain – hilly areas with predominating mixed broad – leaved forests ( 200 – 520 m above the sea level ) with very good hunting areas for red deer, fallow deer and roe deer.
CENTRAL BULGARIA – the Balkanrange ( 300 – 1500 m ) – vast woodlands mainly broad-leaved good for wild boar, brown bear and red deer.
SOUTHEAST BULGARIA – the Rhodopy Mountains – wild boar, chamois, fallow deer, muffin, capercalzie, red deer. This is the area par excellence for wild boar.

Mountainous relief – predominantly coniferous forests, rocky areas and pastures from 700 m till 2000 m above the sea level.

SMALL GAME AREAS – lowland and foothill regions as well as river valleys ( 0 – 300 m above the sea level ).

HOW ?

Hunting lodges, or residences, or small comfortable hotels – situated in the hearth of the hunting areas. Luxuriously forest residences, which provide our clients quality and comfort; lodges from 4 to 16 rooms or suits. You may organize your hunting trip with your family. The most hunting areas are situated in the proximity of beauty spots, historic sites, monasteries, balneocenters, ethnographical villages, and ski-resorts. Your family will enjoy as well the horseback riding, picnics, photosafaris or fishing.

Just specified your wishes and interests, and we will organize a customized programme for non-hunters and accompanying persons.

ORGANIZATION OF YOUR HUNTING TRIP

You have an easy access to Sofia from the biggest European airports: PARIS, ZURICH, FRANKFURT, MUNICH, LONDON, VIENA, MADRID, ROMA, MILANO, AMSTERDAM, etc. with direct flights from 1 to 3 hours.
Reception at Sofia airport, arrangement of customs formalities and necessary licenses, transfers to the hunting area (usually form 1 to 3½ hours by car or domestic flights -1 hour to Northeast Bulgaria).
Accommodation in the hunting area on full board basis. Usually each hunting trip is customized according to requirements of a client.
After the hunting – we will arrange the formalities for trophie’s export.
We offer you taxidermy services as well.

On request: filming of your hunting trip by professional cameramen, specialized in hunting expeditions.

Interpreter during your stay: choose your language – English / German / French / Spanish/ Italian / Russian.
